Wednesday Night Hike

Meetup Group:
Downtown Greater L.A. Hiking and Random Events
Downtown Greater L.A. Hiking and Random Events
Organizer:
This group was organized by a gentleman named Bob. Below is a portion of his group description.
"Want to get out of the city and up into the hills, meet some new friends, get some exercise, and have some fun? Then come along! This group is for anyone who likes hiking for fun and exercise and wants to meet others who do as well. And although we do love to hike, we're also drawn to some of the more random non-hiking activities that downtown/greater LA and its surrounding areas have to offer."
I love the fact that dogs are welcome, and one of the regular hikes is on a Wednesday night. It begins at 7:00PM It's a great way to intermingle with new people, get some exercise, and check out spectacular views of the city lights all at the same time.
Visit the website and find out more about this hiking group.

Hiking - The Garcia Trail
Group - Adventures in SoCal
The Garcia Trail is a great local hike in Azusa, CA. in back of L.A. County Fire Station #97, 18453 Sierra Madre Ave. The elevation gain is about 1100 ft, and it’s a bit steeper than the Mt. Wilson trail off of Los Feliz Blvd. It’s a challenging intermediate hike. It’s a non stop uphill grade of elevation gain of 1000 ft in just over a mile. so the first half is fairly steep for a beginner, but defiantly doable. Overall a 2.4 mile hike is a cupcake, but you can make it as challenging as you wish by your pace of course. For advanced workout enthusiast try the trail, then return another day to create your routine. Wear a weighed vest, or stick a 15 lb Med ball in the backpack, and jog/walk/run intervals - at your own risk of course; know your limits!
Once at the top of the main trail you can trek down to the big “A” on the hillside that overlooks Azusa. It’s this path that’s the real adventure - if you’ve never done it, or you're new to steep loose terrain. The path is narrow, steep, and full of loose gravel and rocks that make it easy to lose balance and slide. I absolutely recommend hiking shoes.
In fact, someone secured a rope about 25 feet down from the beginning of the path, and it extends close to the bottom when things level off a bit. Then its just a short trek to the "A" on the hillside.
